Hip injection for early hip arthritis

A 5 minute proceedure

A slim needle is passed down to your hip joint, the position checked with xray or ultrasound.

Local anaesthetic and Hydrocortisone are injected

The local anaesthetis works straight away numbing or masking the hip. This can be useful to confirm that the pain is indeed coming from the hip, rather than being referred from the back.

The Cortisone is a strong anti-inflammatory and dampens down inflammation in the hip joint. It is particularly effective in early Hip arthritis with minimall or early x-ray changes.

Typically lasts for three months.

One can have 3 injections per joint per year.

Can be particularly useful for short term relief, ie pre holiday.
